Study
How will the new generation of Czech Vietnamese raise their children?
A study on parenting in the second generation of Vietnamese in Czechia – in preparation
2 min

In short
- We are preparing a study on how the second generation of Vietnamese in Czechia approaches raising their own children.
- The study is part of the TAMly project, in cooperation with a research team at the University of South Bohemia.
- It will result in a research report and a booklet combining expert findings, personal stories and practical insights.
What do we want to keep from the way our parents raised us? What would we rather change? And what values do we want to pass on to our own children?
As part of the TAMly project, we are preparing a study on parenting in the second generation of Vietnamese in Czechia, in cooperation with a research team at the University of South Bohemia.
Why this study
We want to understand how our childhood experiences, Vietnamese roots and Czech surroundings shape the way we approach raising our own children today.
We want to make room for parents’ authentic stories and better understand how upbringing and family values change across generations.
Four areas
We will explore four areas:
- What do we carry on?
- What do we reshape?
- What do we leave behind?
- And what new things do we add?
What the study will produce
The result will be a research report and a booklet that brings together expert findings, personal stories and practical insights.
Would you like to take part?
We will share more soon! And perhaps it is your story we will be looking for.
We will announce on the TAMly website how to take part. If you have questions already, write to us at [email protected].
Questions to reflect on
You can answer the questions anonymously. Answers appear once the TAMly team has checked them.
What from your parents’ way of raising you would you like to pass on to your own children?
In which situations do you catch yourself reacting just like your parents? How does that feel?
Which Vietnamese and which Czech customs do you want to keep alive in your family?
Now that you are a parent yourself, what would you like to talk about with your own parents?
